Under state and federal laws, employers are prohibited from discriminating against applicants and employees based upon protected characteristics, (i.e. gender, age, race, and ethnicity, etc.). Violations of anti-discrimination laws can result in penalties up to $50,000 per complaint during an employee lawsuit.
To avoid liability during a harassment or discrimination lawsuit, employers must prove in court that they communicated clear anti-discrimination policies and internal complaint procedures to employees. Additionally, all employees, supervisors, and managers should be instructed on what does or doesn’t constitute discrimination, what types of behaviors are prohibited in the workplace, and how to report an offensive incident.
Personnel Concepts has introduced a new poster-based subscription service to help employers prevent and defend against costly discrimination lawsuits. Our EEO Compliance Poster Subscription features an all-on-one anti-discrimination policy poster; automatic poster updates for one-full year when court decisions and law changes occur; and a quarterly Diverse Workforce newsletter to keep you abreast of the most common causes of discrimination lawsuits. This poster, update service, and newsletter subscription addresses ten major types of employment discrimination: age; genetics; disability; equal pay; national origin; pregnancy; race; religion; sex/gender, and sexual harassment.
Who Needs It
All employers are prohibited by law from discriminating against individuals in protected classes. Employers with less than 15 employees must comply with state and local antidiscrimination laws. Employers with 15 or more employees must comply with federal anti-discrimination laws, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
Communicate Clear Policies
Posting our All-On-One EEO Anti-Discrimination Poster where notices to employees are commonly posted will clearly communicate that your organization does not promote, condone, or tolerate discrimination in the workplace.
Lawsuit Prevention and Defense
Failing to properly address harassment and discrimination in the workplace can lead to costly legal action against your business. This poster can be used in your defense during an investigation or lawsuit to prove that your organization took reasonable steps to prevent discrimination and communicate an effective complaint process. Additionally, the quarterly newsletter and posting update service ensure that you stay up-to-date with law changes and regulatory changes that may impact your company policies.
