Description
OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.38 requires employers to implement an emergency action plan (EAP) to ensure worker safety during a fire, natural disaster, or any other type of sudden emergency. The appendix to the standard specifically states than an emergency action plan “should address emergencies that the employer may reasonably expect in the workplace. Examples are: fire; toxic chemical releases; hurricanes; tornadoes; blizzards; floods; and others….” (1910 Subpart E, Appendix). Failure to comply with OSHA standards can result in fines up to $7,000 per violation.
