Specifically, the General Duty Clause of the OSH Act states that each employer "shall furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards" (29 USC654(a)) and comply with OSHA standards promulgated under the Act (29 USC 654(b)).

Violations of the OSH Act or related OSHA standards can result in fines up to $7,000 per violation for non-serious and serious infractions. Willful and repeat violations can result in much higher fines, up to $70,000.
