In 2010, President Obama signed into law a comprehensive health care reform bill entitled the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Various provisions of the bill directly impact employee health benefit plans and create new rights and obligations for affected organizations, health insurance plans, and individuals. These provisions include new retaliation protections for employees, prohibitions against benefits discrimination based on employee salary, and benefits extensions for dependents up to age 26.
