(Note: Churches and religious organizations such as religious schools or hospitals are typically exempt from this requirement). According to a recent report, the number of religious discrimination charges filed annually with enforcing agencies has doubled since 1992. In July 2008, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) revised its investigation procedures and enforcement policy on religious discrimination to include new guidance for investigators and recommended practices for employers. To minimize the risks of costly lawsuits or investigations, employers must ensure that their current employment practices meet the revised EEOC guidelines. Violations of Title VII’s provisions prohibiting religious discrimination in the workplace can result in damages of up to $50,000 per complaint. (Damages and penalties for violating state laws may vary by state.) To help businesses inform and their workforces to meet their obligations under applicable laws and adhere to revised EEOC guidelines, Personnel Concepts has developed Religious Discrimination Training Handouts. Order now to comply with applicable laws, implement best practices, and protect your business from costly religious discrimination lawsuits. |
