California Labor Law Poster: Two Posters Updated for 2012
Dec 16, 2011
The California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) has updated two notices: the "Discrimination and Harassment in Employment are Prohibited by Law" notice and the "Family Care and Medical Leave (CFRA Leave) and Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL)" notice.
According to the agency, the phrase "gender, gender identity, and gender expression" has been added to augment the list of protected classes under the DFEH. The "Sex" category has also been updated to include pregnancy, childbirth and related medical conditions.
According the agency, this change is mandatory and will go into effect Jan. 1, 2012. Employers must update their old notices dated 05/06 with the current version dated 11/11.
According to the agency, the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) prohibits the DFEH from denying, interfering with, or restraining a claimant's exercise of his or her rights under the FEHA. This change is not mandatory, but employers must post updated state notices.
